This project deals with the complexities of human functionality to strive to create an environment in which is beneficial to both the user and society. The creation of a wellness center within the constraints of an urban dwelling presents a unique challenge because of the ambiguity of wellness as a topic and program. This center will embody the needs of its users while allowing for intense individualization within the program and space. For this center to be successful, it must be flexible, functional, sustainable, natural and peaceful.

Design Concept Statement

The concept for Vitality is centered on the ideation of wellness and how it pertains to one’s surroundings. Through detailed analysis of pain points within the realm of the everyday professional, this wellness center creates a stress-free environment for those to escape to. Wellness is achieved through the actual program of the center as well as the environment in which Vitality embodies. Creating an environment in which positive connotations are concluded by users means also creating a space that is environmentally conscious, so emphasis was placed on green roofs and spaces throughout the wellness center, as well as usage of daylighting techniques and natural materials. Each space within this center was planned with an emphasis on maximizing square footage as well as maintaining functionality. This design shows the importance of stress-free, flexible environments that can be individualized to fit each user within the space.
